Why does anyone bother with making art anymore?

Been asking myself that question.

Painting especially seems mundane, self-involved, pointless ...

Then it comes back to me that society has always needed its poets. So we live under the impression that no one is listening. But we write poems anyway for ourselves and the ones who love us. And sometimes someone's ears perk up. Sometimes in our creations we are reminded of what it means to be alive.
